Cristian Otzin

Cristian Otzin (Maya Kakchiquel) is an attorney and legal advisor at the Mayan Lawyers Association where he served as Executive Director from 2011-2020. He has worked as a legal advisor at FAMDEGUA which serves family members of those disappeared and detained during the Guatemalan civil war; a program officer at Impunity Watch Guatemala; and a legal assistant to the Presidential Commission against Racism and Discrimination against Indigenous Peoples. He is currently part of an international legal team that provided counsel on a groundbreaking case at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights guaranteeing Indigenous Peoples right to freedom of expression via community radio in Guatemala. He is from San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala and speaks Kakchiquel and Spanish.
