Florencia Cancela

Florencia Cancela recently completed her Ph.D. in the faculty of Science and Assistant Professor in the Bacteriology and Virology Department in the Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de la Republica, Uruguay. With a NCSCE-TCI Fellowship, she is carrying out research focusing on cellular and molecular virology of human and zoonotic viral emerging diseases. She has expertise in molecular and cellular biology methodologies such as RT-PCR, RT-qPCR, cell culture, viral concentration from water samples, phylogenetic studies, next-generation sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis. 

In 2021 during the public health emergency due to COVID-19, Florencia was part of a collaboration between NCSCE and the Instituto de Higiene working on wastewater surveillance, with their findings published in PLoS One.
